It's Quarter Two!

Life has been busy at C.I.P.M.S. The first quarter has ended with scholars creating many beautiful art projects...from their Self-Identity Portraits to their Micrography Portraits.

At our parent conferences on November 14th-16th, so many proud parents expressed that they had no idea their children even liked art, let alone could create pieces as phenomenal as those featured on our home page. I was especially happy to hear parents say their kids were asking for art supplies for gifts for the upcoming holidays!  Keep up the stellar work scholars! I'm SO proud of you!

life more Beautiful

Optical Illusions

To start quarter two, we will be exploring optical illusions. An optical illusion is a thing or experience that deceives the eye by appearing to be other than it is. Optical illusions trick our brains into seeing things which do not exist or that are other than they appear. In art class, we've been exploring different types of optical illusions including: Apparent Motion

Stare at the image on the right side of this text for 20 seconds. Did you see it move?? So cool, right?! This experience is called Apparent Motion

The snake illusion occurs because there's so much information hitting different parts of our retina at the same time. All this detail is sent to our visual cortex at once, and the resulting confusion tricks the brain into thinking that movement is taking place when it is not.

5th grade has been working with lines, color, and emphasis to create optical illusion artwork of a hand raising out of a flat surface. The skills they learn from this piece will help them make amazing work for a school wide installation that will feature optical illusion and silhouette art.

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS & ART ACTIVISM

Our scholars have been working so hard to learn new skills and  create optical illusion pieces that incorporate art activism. Their combined artwork will create an anti-bullying mural filled with uplifting messages that will help to create a safe learning environment and caring community at C.I.P.M.S. I'm so proud of their enthusiasm, talent, insightfulness, commitment, and compassion. This was a fun project and many finished today! Much more to come! Enjoy!

Pop Art Activism

Take a closer look at our scholars' optical illusion artwork that has transformed into an art activism piece. They each added symbols and silhouettes to represent their experiences with bullying. This work creates hope that CIPMS will grow into a more peaceful community and better learning environment.

Scholars have created artwork that represents the positive aspects of who they are and activism artwork to encourage a more positive learning environment. Now, they will make artwork they can wear that carries many positive messages. Here's the start of some beautiful clay creations.
